Jesuit presence on the Indian sub-continent dates back to the arrival of Francis Xavier in Goa on 6th May 1542. As for as the Tamil country was concerned, Francis Xavier and his companions had worked in the Pearl Fishery Coast, Mylapore and in other parts, preached the Gospel and planted the Catholic Church. Monthly Message (September '24)
Every year, on September 5, we celebrate Teachers’ Day in memory of Dr. Radhakrishnan, a great teacher, and former President of India. In recent years, on September 5, we also celebrate the memory of St. Mother Teresa of Kolkata. Thus, it is a special day to remember all those who have shaped and uplifted our lives in and through their selfless service.
I am sure all of us have our own favourite teachers who have touched our hearts and transformed our lives. The intellectual wealth that we possess, is from the reservoir of their knowledge and wisdom.
